North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People"s Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a country in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia.  Its capital and largest city is Pyongyang.  It shares borders with South Korea to the south, the People"s Republic of China to the north, and Russia to the northeast.

North Korea has a population of over 25.7 million and its official language is Korean.  The currency is the North Korean Won.  About 64 percent of the population is atheist, 16 percent is Korean shamanism, 13 percent is chondwi believer, and 4.5 percent is Buddhist.  It is a one-party state run by the Korean Workers" Party, and its government follows the Joche (self-sufficiency) ideology.  This ideology was founded by Kim Il-sung, the first president of North Korea, and he was proclaimed the eternal president of North Korea after his death.
